As some of you may know, i went away to Newcastle last week during the half term and i managed to get ONE, yes ONE, outfit of the day snap..
So i thought i would dedicate a WHOLE blog post to it, (because thats what you do right?)
First things first..
I tend to think doing Outfit of the day posts are a really nice way to see how certain people mix and match their outfits and their style, i love to see what clothes other people are wearing and if i would like to buy them too, BUT i do find a lot of things AWKWRD about Outfit of the day posts. I find actually taking part in them a little scary, I mean i do, do them, of course..like this one, right now, but the whole "posing" to show off your outfit does not come naturally to me, and its even more daunting if your doing the photo shoot (so to speak) in a public space with people staring at you wondering why your taking a close up shot of your footwear etc!? awkward..
Here's what i find awkward:
1. Posing, in general.. how should i stand?, arms by my side? hand on hip? Feet apart? feet together? maybe feet over crossing each other? either way the whole "posing" looks and feels weird.
2. Finding the perfect back drop to your photo. Are you going for grungy? maybe chic? elegant and classy? either way you have to find the perfect backdrop to match with your style and taste. Will you have people in your background therefore making it a busy photo maybe like a shot in Oxford Street in London or will you go for a slightly quieter shot like down a country lane?
3. The actual outfit. Are there key pieces you want to show off from the outfit, like for instance your new jumper which you think the whole world and it's mother should know about it, or is it a whole outfit kinda post. This will bring me on to part 4.
4. How will you go on to explain the clothes, "I brought it here and here for this price, it feels fluffy and keeps me warm, love the colour and would recommend it as it was a bargain", or will you opt for the "it was brought here, it was brought here and it was brought here" mode. Basically will you go into details about how the clothes feels on you, and what fabric its made from etc, or will you just name the shops where you brought the clothes from.
5. Photo heavy spam.. How many photos is too many photos, when does it go from showing off an outfit to just being a pure spam post. Also from what angle will the photos be taken, do you want close up shots or are you going to opt for full body shots etc.
As you can see, there are always a few things that i take into account and consider when doing Outfit of the day shots and posts, because as much as this is for me to see what i looked like and what i was wearing in a few years to come, i would like, when people visit my blog..that they can get an idea of what kind of person i am as well, so I'm not only doing a Outfit of the day post but I'm also putting some of my personality into the post too.
The outfit in this post, was basic and very simple yet i thought it was quite effective to what i wanted to pull off, Its the middle of October, i was freezing and these photos were taken up on a hillside overlooking the Angel of the North in Newcastle, we then headed on down to the beach in this weather, so i wanted something i could be warm in but also comfortable.
The jumper was a new one and i LOVE it, like
Jumper - Market stall. £5
Skinnies - Market stall. £10
Boots - Market stall. £15
What have you been wearing lately? Whats one piece of clothing your wardrobe must have in the Autumn months?
Ana X
